Modern Farmhouse

Designed and built as our own development, this home was an opportunity for Bakker Homes to showcase our complete design-and-build approach. Inspired by Scandinavian architecture and contemporary New Zealand barn homes, the vision was to create a modern farmhouse with strong architectural form, natural warmth and a timeless material palette.

One of the key challenges was achieving the desired aesthetic while meeting the site’s BAL-40 bushfire requirements. Careful material selection became integral to the design, with contrasting cladding profiles, oversized Merbau elements and projecting gables creating depth, rhythm and character while satisfying the required performance standards.

The result is a home where design, construction and material selection were considered together from the outset—demonstrating the value of having the designer and builder working as one team from concept through to completion.
